"I love you.
In a gay way.
Just so we're clear.
I love you as a friend.
But also in a gay way."
In 2014, Riding in Cars with (Mostly Straight) Boys premiered at Basement Theatre – in a literal car on the slab as people stood around. Twelve years later, Sam Brooks writes a response to his own show that encompasses the twisty, winding, journey of the show in cars, in schools, in the brains of people across the motu, and across the world. It's here, and it's still queer.
Riding in Riding in Cars with (Mostly Straight) Boys with (Mostly Straight) Boys will put dozens of performers from Basement Theatre's past, present and future onstage for one night to act out a love letter, a tribute, an excoriation, and an exorcism of the show that comes up way too much for the playwright's comfort.
